Logbook servicing

A logbook service is the manufacturer schedule done properly: the right parts, the right oil and fluids, and the book stamped at the end. You do not have to take a new car back to the dealer to keep the warranty, and because we are auto electricians as well as mechanics, anything electrical that turns up can be sorted in the same visit.

Done to the manufacturer schedule

Your logbook sets out what gets checked and replaced at each service interval. A logbook service follows it for your vehicle, with the right parts and the right grades of oil and fluids, and the book gets stamped when it is done so the service history stays complete.

Servicing and the work that goes with it

Logbook and general servicing on cars, utes and 4WDs, and general servicing on vans, light trucks and farm machinery. When the schedule or the inspection calls for more than oil and filters, the usual follow-on work is done here too, from cooling and belts through to brakes, suspension and steering.

  • General servicing
  • Oil, filters and fluids
  • Cooling systems, radiators and hoses
  • Belts, pulleys and tensioners
  • Brakes and brake systems
  • Suspension and steering
  • Battery and charging system testing

Your new car warranty

You do not need the dealer to keep a new car warranty. Australian law lets any qualified mechanic carry out logbook servicing without affecting a new car warranty, as long as it is done to the manufacturer schedule with the right parts and stamped. We stamp the book.

Mechanical and electrical in one visit

A service is when the small things get found: a battery that only just turned it over this morning, a charging light that comes and goes, an accessory that has quietly stopped working. With the auto electrician and the mechanic in the one business, those get tested in the same visit instead of turning into a second booking somewhere else. We test the battery, the alternator and the starter together rather than guessing at one of them.

Before the wet

If the logbook service is due or overdue, before the wet season is the time to do it. The hottest, most humid months are when an engine leans hardest on its cooling, and wet roads ask more of the brakes. Getting it done while there is still room in the week costs least and takes least of your time.

Workshop or on site

Logbook services are done at the workshop at 9 Railway Lane, Atherton. A lot of general servicing can also be done on site across the Tablelands, and anything that needs the hoist comes into the workshop. We will tell you which up front, and what it will cost before we start.

Common questions

Logbook servicing, answered

Will a logbook service from you affect my new car warranty?

No. Australian law lets any qualified mechanic carry out logbook servicing without affecting a new car warranty, as long as it is done to the manufacturer schedule with the right parts and stamped. We stamp the book.

How much does a logbook service cost?

It depends on the vehicle and what its schedule calls for at that service, so we will not guess at a number over the phone. Give us a ring with the make, model and kilometres, and we will tell you what it will cost before any work starts.

Can you check the auto electrics while it is in for a service?

Yes, that is the point of having both trades in one business. If the battery, the charging, the lights or an accessory has been playing up, mention it when you book and it gets tested in the same visit, instead of a separate trip to an auto electrician.

What else we do

Farm machinery auto electrics

A machine that will not start in the middle of a job does not cost you a repair bill, it costs you the day. And on the Tablelands the alternative is a float and a tow into town, which costs more again. So we bring the workshop to the paddock.

Auto air conditioning

This is Far North Queensland. Air conditioning is not a luxury item, and a car with no air con in February is close to unusable. We fix the reason it stopped rather than just filling it back up with gas.

Dual battery & 12V setups

A 12V setup either holds together on corrugated roads or it does not, and you find out which a long way from town. The difference is almost always in the fusing, the cable size and how the joins were made.

Auto electrical repairs

Something has stopped working, the dash is lit up, or the car will not start, and nobody has been able to tell you why. Electrical faults get expensive when they are guessed at, because you end up paying for parts that were never the problem.

Mechanical repairs

Being an auto electrician and a mechanic in the one van is the whole point. Out here the alternative is often a tow into Mareeba and two separate bookings, and a fault that crosses the line between electrical and mechanical is exactly the sort that gets passed back and forth while nobody fixes it.

Brake repairs & servicing

Wet roads, red dirt that turns to slurry and steep runs off the range all ask more of a braking system than a dry winter does. We inspect the whole system, tell you straight what needs doing and what does not, and cover the electrical side of braking as well as the mechanical.

ECU tuning & remapping

A remap changes how the engine actually behaves: where the power comes on, how it tows, and how much fuel it drinks doing it. Done properly it makes a vehicle nicer to drive and cheaper to run. Done badly it costs you an engine.
